Northumbria Police are Now Recruiting.

This year is our last opportunity to recruit the additional officers that are very much needed within our Force as part of the national uplift campaign, and we have several entry routes:

  • Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (PCDA) – open to those who don’t already have a degree qualification. This is a three-year funded course at Northumbria University. Candidates will receive a blended approach to learning with time spent between study and practical on the job training.  They will obtain a degree in Professional Policing Practice at the end of the three years.
  • Degree Holder Entry Programme (DHEP) – for degree holders or those in their final year at university. This two-year programme provides the opportunity to gain a fully funded Graduate Diploma in Professional Policing Practice on successful completion.
  • Graduate Detective Programme – open to graduates, this two-year programme allows candidates to work directly towards a detective role, without having to complete the standard two-year response training first. As part of the programme, they will complete the National Investigators Exam.
  • Special Constable – This is a volunteering role and candidates will receive an 18-week intense training programme to support them in their role.
  • Transferees – We are accepting applications from serving or previous serving officers at all ranks who are out of their probationary period especially those who are from officers who are PIP2 Detectives, Firearms Trainers or have any other specialist background. We are also keen to hear from those working in Response and Neighbourhood policing.
  • Over the next few months, you will see our advertising on social media and LinkedIn.

So why choose Northumbria Police? A career with Northumbria Police will give people the opportunity to progress, develop and achieve.

  • Career progression – There are lots of opportunities for progression and development within our force. Our promotion process is not a single annual event but rather a pathway of development. Through this, we ensure people are provided with the right support to reach their full potential.
  • First rate wellbeing support – From our Mental Health First Aiders to our 24/7 employee assistance line or even our suite of on-site gyms, we prioritise your wellbeing both in and out of work.
  • Variety of policing challenges – There’s opportunities to get involved in rural policing, fast paced city centre policing and the night time economy as well as problem-solving community issues and targeting cross-county crime. With such diversity, there’s something for everyone to sink their teeth into.
  • Transforming our technology – We’re transforming the way we deliver services with new technology and the use of data to reduce harm and keep communities safe.
  • A great place to live – It is a fantastic base to work from with cities, great beaches and the country side all on your door step.
