car crime update

As with past messages sent you will be aware that there has been an increase in reported theft from vehicles along with persons trying vehicle doors in Morpeth particularly in and around the Southfields and Loansdean areas.

We have already sent crime prevention advice to try and prevent these crimes from taking place given the opportunistic nature of them.

However further to this Neighbourhood and Response staff have been active in the areas.  We have been:

  • performing both uniformed and plain clothes patrols,
  • progressing investigations into the offences
  • seeking further CCTV evidence in order to identify offenders.
  • As a result of this:

  • property has been recovered potentially linked to offenders,
  • images have been circulated for Identification.
  • persons have been stopped, searched and advised around conduct.
  • Further to the above vehicles have also been stopped in the area with searches conducted leading to arrested for unrelated matters.

We will continue with this approach and take enforcement action where possible coupled with further work with our partners to deal with any offenders identified.

As always, I would urge any person to report anyone that they may think are acting in a suspicious manner via 101 or through the online systems.  Should you believe that they are actively involved in crime then utilise the 999 system
