Christmas Crime Prevention

As the festive period is upon us so to is the opportunity for persons to commit crime.

Unfortunately, we often see an increase of burglaries and thefts in the build up to Christmas with many offenders trying their luck for a quick win.

Given the above we would ask members of the public to be vigilant and take some small steps to protect their homes and cars further this Christmas.

We would urge you to double check your cars, houses and outbuildings are locked. Make sure that security lights are working and any vehicular or premises security is correctly set

Please also keep Christmas presents out of sight and do not store them in your cars or sheds.

Doing this will reduce the risk of becoming a victim of crime during this period.

Further to this should you notice anything suspicious in your community you should report it as soon as possible.

We would add that while there is often a pattern which sees burglary and thefts rise at this time of year, your local teams continued to work hard to combat this and will take appropriate action around any report that you make.

To report crime or suspicious activity, contact Northumbria Police by sending a private message on social media, or by using the live chat function and report forms on the force's website. You can also call 101, or in an emergency dial 999.
