Good Afternoon,
Being a victim of a burglary is not just about items that are stolen or damaged, it can be a traumatic experience losing things of sentimental value and the emotional impact of having someone enter your home can be significant. As we are approaching Christmas, it is important to keep your homes safe for you and your loved ones. We often find that criminals will try door handles to homes and vehicles as they look to target those that are left insecure. By putting a few crime prevention measures in place it will reduce the risk of your home being targeted. Some of these measures include: - Making sure your windows are locked or making sure the window restrictors are working. - Lock / double lock your doors every time you leave the house. - Check that your vehicles are locked especially before going to bed. - Consider using indoor light timers. - Consider using outdoor lights on a sensor or timer. - Make sure your vehicle keys are in a secure place within your home and not on display by the front door.
Please be vigilant, look after yourselves and your neighbours, and if you see anything suspicious please report this via 101 or online. In an emergency call 999. You can also get further crime prevention advice via our website: Protecting your home from crime | Crime prevention | Northumbria Police
We wish you all the best, have a great Christmas and stay safe!
